This 1864 two-cent piece has satiny and attractive surfaces with medium brown surfaces that show areas of iridescence and luster. The strike is sharp too, with the all important motto clear as well as the shield and leaves. There are minor areas of softness around the obverse rim, but these do not affect the devices, as struck at the mint. These Small Motto pieces were likely struck early in the sequence, mimicking the pattern coins which preceded them with the same Small Motto style. An enticing coin that has many desirable qualities, and is a prized rarity in all grades, especially so at this lofty Gem level.
