This is a very interesting Connecticut Copper, and not only because it is an example of the popular Hercules Head Guide Book variety. The reverse is struck from a heavily clashed die, portions of the obverse design for a Connecticut Copper (date?; type?) readily evident both in the center and along the left border. We can see these features despite the fact that the overall reverse strike is characteristically soft for the variety due to the heavily worn and buckled state of the die. The obverse is much bolder with no evidence of clashing, although the strike is drawn toward the right border, as it is also on the reverse. Even copper-brown patina to both sides, the surfaces with only minor planchet flaws (as struck) and no significant post-production detractions. Low pop!
