This is a popular Guide Book variety with only a single die marriage known. Although the African Head Connecticut Copper typically displays noticeable softness of strike, the example we offer here is actually quite bold, this feature undoubtedly due to a lack of all but light wear. The obverse is overall bold with lack of detail confined to the right-peripheral area, where the letters in the word CONNEC are still discernible. Isolated peripheral softness is also noted for the reverse, and the lower portion of the seated figure is a bit blunt, but all major features are readily evident. Mottled crimson-red highlights are more extensive on the reverse. There are no significant abrasions or other post-production detractions, and roughness to the planchet is minor and largely confined to the right-border areas on both sides. All-in-all, an uncommonly attractive example of the variety.
