With Q. David Bowers estimating that only 200-350 examples have survived in all grades (Silver Dollars & Trade Dollars of the United States: A Complete Encyclopedia, 1993), BB-119 is a scarce die marriage of the 1798 Large Eagle Dollar. Most examples grade no finer than VF, this variety being rare in EF and very rare any finer. Obviously an important coin for the specialist, this piece is minimally circulated with overall sharp definition to the central devices. The strike does wane a bit here and there around the borders, but not significantly for a Silver Dollar of this type. Lightly toned in pale-silver and iridescent-gold hues, with mostly small-size abrasions that are not singularly distracting to the eye.
