This piece exhibits a male portrait on the obverse facing left with the initials C.R. below. To the left appears the inscription G.T. BEAUREGARD. BRG. GEN. C.S.A. The reverse has an open wreath enclosing the inscription MANASSAS 21 JULY 1861, an observance of the battle there. The piece is struck in silver, about the size of a Dime, has denticles around the border and a reeded edge. This issue, of unknown origin and significance, is exceedingly rare. The present example with mottled steel-gray color on the obverse and otherwise silver-gray surfaces. The central reverse exhibits little detail due to damage.
