One of Just Ten Examples Struck. 24 karat pure gold. 1.5 ounces. Gorgeous orange-gold surfaces with sharp cameo contrast. As struck.
This extremely rare gold casino token was part of the personal collection of renowned Las Vegas gaming pioneer Jackie Gaughan. It had been stored for decades in the vault of the El Cortez Hotel & Casino and only recently rediscovered as part of a group of gold and silver coins, bars and gaming tokens personally owned by Gaughan. These items were acquired directly from Gaughan, and the present example is making its first appearance at public auction.
The Union Plaza Casino $1 gold gaming tokens, of which only ten examples were made, were produced by Van Brook Mint of Lexington, Kentucky expressly for Jackie Gaughan, who owned the El Cortez and Union Plaza at that time.
