This is a lovely Liberty Cap Cent the importance of which for Mint State type purposes cannot be overstated. Both sides possess lovely color in a warm, even, copper-brown shade. The overall strike is impressively sharp for an early U.S. Mint coin of any type, and we do not see any mentionable lack of detail save for some light friction to the highest elements of the obverse portrait and the reverse ribbon. There are no blemishes of note, and the surfaces are remarkably smooth in terms of post-production distractions. We do see areas of roughness in the planchet on the obverse in the date area and over the bottom of Liberty's bust, but we stress that this feature is as struck and has to do with some rusting and pitting in the die. A crack from the obverse rim after the date is also as made. Possessed of lovely eye appeal and solid technical quality, we anticipate strong bidder competition for this pleasing BU large Cent.
