5.6 grains. This Mint error is mounted in an NGC holder that does not include a grade on the insert. Based on the wear evident on the obverse, our grade for this piece is Good-6. That side of the coin retains outline definition to all major design elements, although several of the stars are quite faint. The reverse of the planchet has sheared away leaving an otherwise blank disc on that side of the coin that is interrupted by some shallow, as-struck rifts in the flan. Free of significant circulation marks, this is an intriguing error from the earlier years of U.S. Mint production.
