Lot #171. 1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.15-Gc37a. Rarity-2. EF-40 Cleaned (Uncertified).

Description: 106.4 grains. 11 harp strings, no pellet before H, small 3 repunched at top, two stops after the date on reverse. Cleaned long ago, but now naturally retoned to a pleasing blend of chestnut and chocolate-brown patina. Marginally off center to the viewer's lower right on the obverse and upper right on the reverse. A visually pleasing coin that should be seen to be fully appreciated. Breen (1988) describes this variety as: "Two stops after 1923. Rare."
