Lot #9009. 1855 Pattern Flying Eagle Cent. Judd-168, Pollock-193. Rarity-4. Proof-64 BN (NGC).

Description: 95.5 grains. The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to strike the Judd-167 examples being offered above. Struck in bronze (95% copper, 4% tin, 1% zinc, as denoted on the NGC insert) with a plain edge.
This is an overall sharply impressed specimen bathed in handsome copper-brown patina, a few streaks of lighter sandy-tan tinting also evident in and around the central obverse. The often seen die line (as made) is evident on the reverse between the letters NI in UNITED, but we see no clashmarks on either side for this early die state example. A hairline-thin planchet flaw (as made) is discernible over the right-center reverse, but only with the aid of a loupe.

PCGS# 11720.
