51.1 millimeters. 1135.8 grains. An orphan in the Indian Peace medal series, first struck in 1878 to help contemporary collectors complete their set of Indian Peace medals with portrait pieces depicting each President, though the portrait hubs used to make this medal date to the 1830s. Nice smooth mahogany bronzed patina, golden in the obverse fields, violet and blue on the reverse. An area of thin patina is present at Adams’ collar. A good looking specimen of a medal that often comes mishandled; scarce this nice.
