Lot #1. Undated (Circa 1918) Herbert Hoover Commission for Relief in Belgium Medal. Bronze. 76 mm. By Derreese. Choice About Uncirculated.

Description: Obv: high-collared bust of Hoover faces left, with HERBERT C. HOOVER in the right obverse field, and the designer's name C. DERREESE on the lower left obverse field. Rev: inscription: HERBERT C. HOOVER FROM HIS FRIENDS OF THE C.R.B. in the center surrounded by a wheat wreath.

Struck in Belgium at the end of World War I to honor Hoover's efforts to provide food to civilians in Belgium throughout the war. The edge is inscribed: J.FONSON EPREUVE D'AUTEUR.

A well preserved large medal with even tan coloration and smooth surfaces free of contact marks or discoloration. A few tiny specks are noted the obverse. The impressive portrait of Hoover is struck in high relief. An attractive item that will interest collectors of World War I or Herbert Hoover material.
