The United States' first dime, the 1796 Draped Bust is a perennial favorite among advanced type collectors. We offer here a highly collectible mid-grade survivor, a coin that is of even greater significance when we recognize that the JR-2 die marriage accounts for only about 5-10% of extant 1796 dimes (per the John Reich Collectors' Society, 1984). A very appealing VF, both sides are uncommonly smooth for the grade with only a single ancient mark in the field above Liberty's head. Ample detail remains overall, and the surfaces exhibit a mixture of silver-gray and deeper steel-gray color. Worthy of a strong bid.
