The "other" Libertas Americana medal. Obv: Liberty on right hanging a shield with 13 stripes on an obelisk, King George III seated to left, LIBERTAS AMERICANA arcs above, MDCCLXXXIII in exergue. Rev: standing Britannia holding ribbon with cluster of shields, COMMVNI CONSENSV arcs above. Deep steel-gray with lively luster throughout.
We note what appears to be a toning spot on the obverse at the center of the exergue line, though careful examination reveals it to be a copper plug that carries on to the opposite place on the reverse -- evidently the planchet was plugged before striking, as the design elements on the plugged portion of the medal are perfect in detail. Neat!
