Sharply struck with brilliant, smooth surfaces that are distraction free. A shallow planchet flaw (as made) is noted on the lower left obverse, between the top of U in UNITED and the rim at 7 o'clock. Forming a set of Proof nickel three cent pieces from the first year of issue, 1865, to the last, 1889, is an interesting challenge. All are available with patience. The rarest by a good margin is the 1865, as Proofs of this year were not made until the summer, by which time many sets had been sold without this coin. The second rarest date is the 1887 (not the overdate).
