This Choice Mint State 1877-S quarter eagle is the last branch mint variety in the Liberty Head series. All later dates were made only in Philadelphia. It is sharply struck throughout, with sharp delineation on the eagle's talons, leg feathers, and arrows. Radiant mint frost and fiery champagne-red toning are seen across both sides of this lovely near-Gem, while a few trivial field marks seemingly keep it from grading even higher. A conditionally rare example of this San Francisco Mint issue, and one of the ten finest-graded examples at NGC, excluding Prooflikes.
NGC Census: 8; 2 finer.
