A partial layer of mottled olive-green patina drapes each side of this satiny premium Gem. Some gold and russet colors are added near the obverse periphery. A well struck example with seemingly flawless surfaces. The Boone commemoratives were distributed by C. Frank Dunn who held forth in an office on the second floor of the Phoenix Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a very wily individual, issued false "sold out" pronouncements and the like and, it is said, transferred assets to his wife's name to prevent them from being seized in a legal action. All of this and related shenanigans from the 1935 to 1939 era are fascinating to learn about today.
