A rare date in any Mint State grade as precious few survived without entering circulation. After all, the mintage of 15,000 pieces was not large to begin with, and these were released near the height of the Gold Rush in California, furthermore the hoarding of hard money became common as this period as the nation sunk toward Civil War. The color is a rich orange-gold with ample luster in the fields. Fully struck too, as the high points of Liberty's head show the finer details on her curls. Attractive for the grade with a clean cheek on Liberty and the fields have minimal signs of contact. Rare this nice, prohibitive finer.
NGC Census: 9; 1 finer.
