Dark steel gray in the recesses and somewhat lighter on the higher points. A few relatively deep adjustment marks on the reverse, as made planchet irregularities that are often seen on 18th-century issues. At the rim the adjustments have made the metal thin, and the design is not fully struck. A rare die variety that, according to Logan-McCloskey, is "difficult to obtain in any grade." In terms of sharpness, this example appears comparable to the LM plate coin.
