Lot #4188. Obsolete Notes. Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Blackstone Bank. ND (186x). $20. Choice About Uncirculated.

Exceptional Massachusetts Green ABN Imprint Proof

Description: (MA-1235 G90a SENC). Imprint of the American Bank Note Co. New-York. Green frame, filigree details, protector TWENTY and lower left die. Upper left, horse frightened by lightning. Right of enter, male portrait over title. Lower right, quaint vignette of dog rescuing youngster from capsized boat. An exceptional green ABN imprint color proof, the only example we have seen if it is the same example in the plate photo in Muscalus’ Paper Money in Sheets. Can’t quite tell without a doubt. The lower right vignette is the first we have seen and can’t place it on another note. The color scheme is striking and in perfect balance with the black and white. Very light upper left corner handling fold. Might be unique, or at worst, virtually so.
Estimate: $5,000 - $7,500
