Obsolete Notes. Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Wyoming Bank at Wilkes-Barre. ND (186x). $5. Choice About Uncirculated. Proof.
Impressive NBN Imprint Color Proof
Description:
(PA-715 G14a). Imprint of the National Bank Note Company. India paper mounted on original card. Green frame, signature block panels, fancy ends and filigree details. Center, strident America with sun rising bisecting the wavy titles. This vignette used on the Confederate $100 Montgomery notes. Upper left, young girl. Upper right, intricate die using Cyrus Durand patents with bank title. Very impressive and very rare NBN imprint green color proof. The proofs from this engraving firm are the elite of all obsoletes and are usually integral to the most advanced collections. Few appear for sale in a given year and for the most part, have established pedigrees. This stunner was discovered in an archive sales book auctioned by Morton & Eden in London; subsequently broken up and sold at the 2005 Memphis Auction by Smythe (lot 5986). There is some minor bending at the right of the card and faintest wisps of foxing, but the color is outstandingly fresh. A gem appearance is certainly the first impression the viewer receives from this magnificent proof.
