Lot #1266. 1831 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-2. Rarity-3. MS-67 (NGC).

Description: Extraordinary quality for the type or date collector as Capped Bust half dimes are seldom found in Gem grades, let alone at the lofty Superb Gem level as offered here. Radiant mint luster throughout and the strike is sharp on the stars and curls of Liberty, as well as the eagle on the reverse. Toned with rather vivid although somewhat irregular shades of orange-russet and blue on the obverse and reverse with flashes of bright silver intermixed. Later die state with thin cracks to the stars on the obverse both left and right, on the reverse traces of clashing and the usual retained cud to the top of the R in AMERICA is present with a small piece shifted of the die and starting to sink from the die surface.

NGC Census: 15; 2 finer (MS-68 finest) within designation.

PCGS# 4278.
