Lot #1358. 1868-S Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-101a. Rarity-6. MS-67 (NGC).

Description: A sparkling, brilliant branch mint dime with boldly active luster and exceptional eye appeal. The strike is crisp throughout save for some weakness at the bottom of the bow and mintmark on the reverse.Tied for finest certified of the date by NGC. Just a dozen examples of the date have been certified thus far by NGC, this despite a somewhat sizeable mintage for the date of 260,000 pieces; the vast majority of the issue saw heavy duty in commerce in and around San Francisco, with most of today's survivors well-circulated. If a memorable Liberty Seated dime collection or type ensemble is your goal, you won't find many more memorable than the present Gem, so please bid accordingly.

NGC Census: 2; none finer within any designation.

PCGS# 4650.
