Lot #2066. 1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. B-9, BB-166. Rarity-1. BB Die State III-IV (intermediate die state). AU-55 (NGC).

Description: High condition for this or any die variety from the Bust dollar series, where Liberty boasts such abundant definition in her hair and the eagle's wing feathers are sharply defined. The strike is bold on all devices, including the stars over the eagle. No adjustment marks are seen, and the surfaces are satin smooth with minimal evidence of circulation and just a few faint lines. Interesting die state with a thin crack up from the first 9 through Liberty's drapery, curving over and touching her chin and splitting star ten to the rim. Fine die polish lines are present in Liberty's hair and drapery lines, as always seen on this variety. Identifiable by a couple of minor nearly horizontal drift marks on the reverse, one in the stars over the eagle's head like a thin cloud drifting by. Medium silver-gray with bold obverse dentils framing that side nicely.

PCGS# 40057.
