Stack’s Bowers Galleries has just wrapped up the live portion of the Spring 2022 Showcase Auction. Among the offerings, the Cryptocurrency section was extremely popular. At the time of the sale, Bitcoin was trading for $45,200.?
Lot 3220 ended up the main highlight among the cryptocurrency in the sale. It offered a 2013 Lealana “Gold B” 1 BTC graded by PCGS as Proof-69 Deep Cameo. This coin sold for $108,000, which represents a 238% premium on the price of the digital coin.
Lot 3209 featured a 2011 Casascius 1 BTC graded by PCGS as MS-66 that sold for a large premium at $78,000 (172% of the Bitcoin value).
Lot 3219 was a fractional Bitcoin graded by PCGS as Proof-70 Deep Cameo. This 0.5 BTC sold for $66,000 representing a 292% mark-up on the price of the digital bitcoin value.
Lot 3211 exemplifies the premiums that these coins were bringing in auction. This lot featured a 2011 Casascius 1 BTC that was UNFUNDED (unloaded) which still sold for $3,960.
Lot 3222 illustrates that Bitcoins were not the only physical cryptocurrency bringing impressive prices. A 2013 Lealana 10 Litecoin sold for $7,800, with the value of a single Litecoin at the time of auction was $123.61 ($1,236.10 for 10 LTC). This exhibits a 631% premium on the intrinsic Bitcoin value.
All in all, we sold a total of 5.55 Loaded Bitcoins for a total price of $497,400, an average of $90,436 per physical Bitcoin.
