Charles Emanuel Revtyak (b. 1904 d. 1957) of Coaldale
City, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania was a collector and a student of U.S.
numismatics who taught art and coached football at Coaldale High School.
Although he sold gold coins as an adult to support his family during the Great
Depression, he continued to amass notable collections of large and small cents,
Shield, Liberty Head, Buffalo and Jefferson nickels, among many other series. His daughter Barbara Hutchinson recalls
visiting coin shows in Hazleton and Lebanon, Pennsylvania and being taken along
on trips to collect with her father and his friends. Charles James Revtyak (b.
1929 in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania d. 1990 in Danville, California)
adopted a passion for collecting and continued many of the sets started by his
father, focusing on both Proof and circulation strike coinage. As a child and third generation owner of the
collection, Garth Charles Revtyak (b. 1966 Contra Costa County, California)
vividly recalls trips to the safe deposit box to examine the coins. Although
Garth never added to the collection, he kept the coins in a bank vault and
viewed them every decade or so, enjoying and preserving the assemblage as it
was inherited. Even so, the passion for numismatics
was passed down and Garth assembled his own collections of circulated and
uncirculated U.S. coins, such as Mercury dimes, eventually finding an interest
in foreign coins, tokens and medals, as well. Today, Garth is excited to share
his grandfather’s ambitions through the sale of the Revtyak Collection, which
is comprised of coins from the original sets collected by Charles Emanuel
Revtyak. Including such treasures as an 1857 Braided Hair cent in MS-64 RD
(PCGS), an 1877 Indian cent graded MS-64+ RB (PCGS), a 1914-D Lincoln cent
graded MS-65+ (PCGS), a top pop MS-65 RD 1927-S Lincoln cent, and a 1937-D
3-legged Buffalo nickel certified MS-63 by PCGS, we are thrilled to present to
you this delightful assemblage.
