The 1895 Proof-Only “King of Morgan Dollars” Makes an Appearance in Our Next iAuction Event

With each passing iAuction sale we hold, the venue becomes more exciting. Indeed, we are pleased to announce that the key date to the entire Morgan dollar series, the Proof-only 1895 rarity, will make an appearance in our next iAuction event. Certified as Proof-64 Cameo by PCGS, this example of the “king” offers remarkable visual and physical quality. The frosty design elements all stand out boldly from the reflective, warm golden-gray fields and the entire coin is awash with a touch of pale golden toning. Only 880 Proofs of the date were produced, and though rumors abound regarding circulation strikes from Philadelphia this year, no genuine example has ever surfaced. All proposed examples have been circulated Proofs of the date or branch mint coins with the mintmark removed. Perhaps just 600 to 650 examples of the “King of Morgan Dollars” can be accounted for today, and the appearance of an example always sets the collecting community on high alert. Not only do Morgan dollar fanciers seek this Proof-only rarity, collectors outside of the Morgan dollar discipline also appreciate the coin for what it is – a bona fide classic rarity among United States coinage. No doubt high on many want lists – and wish lists – we expect that collectors will flock to the offering and help raise our latest iAuction event to new heights.
