Exceptional Mint State 1798/7 Eagle Rarity Highlights Our Upcoming iAuction Collector Appreciation Event

Just when you think you’ve seen it all in our popular iAuction events, along comes an early American gold piece with aesthetic charm, Mint State quality, and with a scarce die variety thrown in for good measure. The 1798/7 Capped Bust Right eagle, BD-1, has obverse stars arranged nine left and four right (9X4 as collectors know it). This beautiful Uncirculated early eagle has exceptional luster and eye appeal, and lively orange-gold highlights are found on both sides. The strike is superior for the design type, with essentially full design details throughout. It is thought that about 80 to 100 examples of the 1798/7 BD-1 variety are known, with the vast majority far lower in grade than the MS-61 NGC-certified beauty we offer.

There are only two varieties for the year; the other variety has its stars arranged 7X6 and is somewhat scarcer than the variety we feature here. As for the present 9X4 Stars eagle, it is one of only nine Mint State examples of the issue certified by NGC, with only three of those graded finer. A solitary MS-63 example is listed by NGC, but it’s safe to imagine that that coin is locked away somewhere in a major collection. With the amount of attention that early U.S. gold coins have received in recent months, our iAuction bidders can be at the forefront of the movement with the present bidding opportunity. Don’t be shy when you place your bids, as this beautiful eagle will bring a strong price when the final hammer falls. Browse this and the rest of our current iAuction at StacksBowers.com.
