IRVINE, Calif. (June 19, 2014) — More than 3,000 lots are scheduled to cross the auction block at Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo, June 24–28, 2014.

Highlights abound in the catalog, from copper issues of 1793, to an array of Saint-Gaudens double eagles. Of special interest is The El Dorado Collection, Part II, with emphasis on Liberty double eagles of the San Francisco Mint. The collection – formed over the course of several decades by the McLoughlin family – includes a premium Gem Mint State 1906-S double eagle from the year of the Great San Francisco Earthquake. The coin was also part of the famous Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection. Also of note in The EL Dorado Collection is a beautiful MCMVII High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle purchased from the Mint in the year of issue.

Additional gold coin highlights in the June 2014 Baltimore Auction include a key date 1875 half eagle rarity, of which just 200 pieces were struck, as well as a key date 1909-O Indian half eagle in Mint State. The selections of eagles is likewise superb, offering a 1795 from the first year of the denomination, and a rare Proof 1865 Liberty eagle. Proof 1882 and 1907 Liberty double eagles are but two of the many highlights in that denomination.

The sale will also highlight selections from The Harold Bareford Collection, which Stack’s Bowers Galleries first showcased many years ago.

Among the rare exonumia offerings in this sale are a gold Washington funeral medal from dies engraved by Jacob Perkins and an 1862 Abraham Lincoln Indian peace medal of museum quality. On the esoteric side, The Raymond W. Dillard Collection of Elongated Coins, Part VII will certainly appeal to specialists.
