Stack’s Bowers Galleries Presents Final Set from The Fairmont Collection

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is pleased to present The Fairmont Collection – Riviera Set as part of the February 2025 Showcase Auction. This is the final set of coins from the extensive Fairmont Collection to be featured at auction, the culmination of nearly seven years of sales. In the end, the Fairmont Collection was the largest accumulation of United States gold coins to ever come to market, and the Stack’s Bowers Galleries team has put great effort into bringing this vast numismatic holding to market. With each sale, numismatic history was made and records were broken, as new and exciting coins, previously unavailable to collectors for generations, found their way into new cabinets. Generations of numismatic scholarship have been altered, and these sales have forced the revision of survival estimates for many different dates, especially among branch mint Liberty Head gold coins.

The Riviera Set, crossing the block on Wednesday, February 5, contains over 270 gold coins, and like previous offerings features half eagles, eagles, and double eagles. Fresh to the market, there is a wide array of dates and mints across the Liberty Head, Indian Head, and Saint-Gaudens series. Some highlights include:

Lot 2081: A Mint State 1909-O half eagle. A popular key issue and the last gold coin struck in New Orleans.

Lot 2086: A Choice MS-63 1911-D half eagle. A conditionally challenging date among Indian half eagles.

Lot 2118: An EF 1875-CC eagle. A popular low mintage rarity.

Lot 2125: A Mint State 1882-O eagle. A challenging date so fine.

Lot 2128: A CAC-approved Choice AU 1884-CC $10.

Lot 2155: A Choice Mint State 1915-S Indian Head eagle with CAC approval.

Lot 2166: A high grade, high end Choice AU 1854 Large Date $20.

Lot 2175: An 1864 double eagle, graded PCGS AU-58 CAC. A desirable Civil War year.

Lot 2176: A choice collector grade 1866-S No Motto $20 rarity.

Lot 2184: An AU-55 (PCGS) 1873-CC double eagle. A rare early date from this popular Mint.

Lot 2207: A near-Mint State 1885-CC double eagle. A rarity so fine.

Lot 2210: An appealing MS-62 1889-CC $20. A scarce date at this level and very rare any finer.

Interspersed with these highlights are scores of other great gold coins for your collection. If you have not participated in any Fairmont Collection sales, remember, this is the last set of Fairmont Collection gold coins that will be offered auction—the end of an exciting and historic era in American gold coin collecting.
