As we have mentioned
before, here in New York City we purchase coins from people all over the world.
Most of these are in-person purchases from clients who bring them into our
store. However we also have many people who do not live in New York or are unable
to come to our location. These clients send their coins to us for purchase.
Pictured here is a group
of items that was recently sent to us so that we could make an offer. The bad
news is that several of the pieces were counterfeits; the good news is that the
American silver dollars were not! Usually when we see miscellaneous groups of
Asian and American silver dollar sized coins together there is a high
probability that if one is fake they all are. However that was not the case in
this instance. The seller suspected that there may have been some copies so it
was not a complete shock to him. We were able to make him a nice offer, which
he was happy to accept for the 1798 silver dollar and the 1876-CC trade dollar.
