1795 Washington Grate Cent

Question: I have a 1795 Washington Grate cent with a reeded edge, but the reeding is on a slant rather than vertical. How rare is this variety? What is it worth? I grade it MS-63 with some mint red remaining.

Answer: All 1795 Washington Grate cents with reeded edges have the reeding diagonal; none have the usual (on other coins) vertical reeding. Thus, the piece you have would have the normal value of a 1795 Grate cent (see page 83 in the 2016 Guide Book of United States Coins).
