Stacks Bowers Galleries will auction Part II of the L. E. Bruun Collection, the world's premier private collection of Scandinavian coinage, on March 14-15, 2025, in Zurich, Switzerland, with an estimated value of €5.5 to €7.5 million. The collection, amassed by Danish businessman L. E. Bruun in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was held in trust for 100 years and is now being auctioned after the Royal Danish Coin and Medal Collection remained intact. Part I of the auction, held in September 2024, realized a record-breaking €14.8 million, and the ongoing sales are expected to surpass €25 million in total. Featuring rare museum-quality coins, including unique Danish gold pieces, the auction has drawn significant global attention from collectors and investors.

Stacks Bowers Galleries conducted the firms first United States Showcase Auction of the 2025 season, an event that featured a small, but powerful selection of rarities consigned from a Texas Gentleman and other important collectors. The star of the first session was the finest known 1849 Pacific Company $5 gold piece, one of just four known, and one of two in private hands. This incredible coin shattered its previous record by nearly $500,000 when it sold for $1,260,000. A Gem 1904 double eagle, NGC Proof-66+ Cameo and approved by CMQ brought $360,000, doubling the previous record for any 1904 double eagle in Proof. (All prices include the buyers fee.)

In what can only be described as a monumental moment for the world of numismatics, Stacks Bowers Galleries has announced the sale of a historic 1870 $2 Canadian banknote, payable at Victoria, for an astounding $360,000 ($518,000 CAD). The note, previously considered lost, shattered pre-sale estimates, attracting a price that reflects its rarity and significance in the world of Canadian currency. It now joins the ranks of the most expensive examples of Canadian paper money ever sold.

Stacks Bowers Galleries, in its role as an official auctioneer of the New York International Numismatic Convention, always hosts one of the years most hotly anticipated auction events at the January NYINC. This years auction was no exception, with numerous record-breaking results that brought the price realized totals across the ancient coins, world coins, and world currency categories to $12,398,470. Stack's Bowers Galleries is proud to announce that a Texas gentleman has consigned a small but powerful group of iconic rarities to the firms showcase auction scheduled for February 4-5, 2025. The Property of a Texas Gentleman will be remembered for bringing to market the finest known example of the famed 1849 Pacific Company $5 gold piece, one of about a half a dozen examples known. Graded AU-58 by PCGS and approved by CAC and CMQ, the coin offers a provenance to such illustrious cabinets as the Garrett and Riverboat collections and served as the plate coin in the 2023 reference on Private and Territorial gold coins by Donald Kagin and David McCarthy. Only four examples are traced today, one of which is held permanently in the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution. Another has not sold at auction since 1987 and is currently in a private collection. The only other example was stolen from the duPont Collection in 1967 and has never been recovered. With just this piece on the market for the foreseeable future, this will be specialists only opportunity to purchase one.
