1857-S Double Eagle graded MS-62 (PCGS).

This week’s iAuction highlight is a very popular 1857-S double eagle, in MS-62 (PCGS). This date was considered very rare in Mint State prior to the discovery of thousands of high grade coins salvaged from the wreck of the S.S. Central America, which went down in a hurricane in September 1857. This lovely coin has rich satiny gold luster with deeper orange-gold highlights and only a few grade-limiting ticks. A great Type I double eagle for inclusion in a gold type set. View this double eagle, along with the rest of our iAuction items, at the Browse Auctions link at www.StacksBowers.com.
