Finest Graded IBOC 1898 1 Tael

In
our upcoming August 2019 Hong Kong Sale at the Mira Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui we
are offering many highlights, from extreme rarities, to condition anomalies
such as finest known examples.

One
of these stand out notes is an Imperial Bank of China 1898 1 Tael with the
Peking place name. Its catalog number in Pick is A40a with a S/M # of C293-2b. It
exhibits true visual quality and currently sits alone atop the PMG population
report.

It
is a rare Tael issue note, one of only a few we have handled for the catalog
number in recent memory. It features a deep blue frame and orange
under-printing with red protectors. There are strong overprints in both the
serial numbers and signature. The back has a black circular seal at upper
center and similar styling as the face. This example will certainly enhance any
comprehensive collection of Chinese banknotes. “Minor Ink” at the top margin is
mentioned, with the operative term being minor.
