1850 Gold Dollar

1850 Gold Dollar

Circulation Mintage: 481,953
Obverse Text: LIBERTY
Reverse Text: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA | 1 DOLLAR | 1850

The 1850 is the second Philadelphia Mint issue in the Type I Gold Dollar series. Although a mintage of 481,953 pieces is respectable for the type, the 1850 is far scarcer in today's market than most other P-mint Gold Dollars from the 1850s (the high-mintage 1851, 1852 and 1853, of course, come readily to mind in this context). Superb Gems are exceedingly rare and vie for Condition Census #1 ranking.
