1867 Gold Three Dollar

1867 Gold Three Dollar

Circulation Mintage: 2,600
Estimated Survivors: About 150 in All Conditions
Obverse Text: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA | LIBERTY
Reverse Text: 1867 | 3 DOLLARS

The 1867 $3 is from a circulation strike run of 2,600 pieces, with today’s surviving specimens, fewer than 150 pieces across the grading spectrum, usually in VF or so. In AU the date approaches great rarity and fewer than 25 true Mint State examples are thought to be extant. Indeed, Dave Bowers calls the 1867 $3 “another entry in the line-up of rarities that are generally unappreciated in the marketplace.”
