Guidelines for Collecting:

Most Mint State 1899-S dollars are well struck and very attractive, with excellent rich and frosty luster. Bagmarks are not a problem with most 1899-S dollars. In circulated grades the 1899-S is far less common than its Mint State counterparts.

Availability in Circulated Grades:

EF and AU coins can be found with a little patience but most collectors enjoy Mint State coins to represent this date.

Availability in Mint State Grades:

Many bags of this formerly scarce date were released in the 1940s and 1950s, with some of the quantity going to Las Vegas gaming tables. By the early 1960s much of the surplus for the date had been distributed. Pleasing MS-64 coins with a solid strike and lively, lustrous surfaces are available and make an excellent addition to a Morgan dollar set.

Availability in Proof:

None produced.
