Eliasberg Rarities in the Spotlight

Once again, the Eliasberg name is front and center in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ schedule of auction events. In the upcoming months some incredibly beautiful rarities will cross the block in our showcase auctions, sure to excite collectors with their immense eye appeal and numismatic importance. Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. accomplished what no other numismatist had done before or has done since: he acquired an example of every date and mintmark in United States coinage, from the very earliest through the end of his collecting days. In addition, he endeavored to share the hobby of numismatics with the public by exhibiting his incredible cabinet at various venues, starting with displays at the Baltimore National Bank where the collection was housed. The most famous showing was a four month display at the Philadelphia Mint during the nation’s bicentennial, where it attracted over 1,500,000 visitors! Our own Harvey Stack was instrumental in making that display happen!

The rarities to come will be center stage in three auctions, with the first being featured in our current October Hong Kong Rarities Night (lot 30224). Several famous coins will follow in our November Whitman Winter Expo Auction, with the world coin highlights being presented in our January 2024 NYINC auction event. Read more here, and stay tuned for further information as it becomes available.
