Lot 90078 presents a lovely 1836 Overton-123 Bust half dollar, certainly a highlight of this inaugural event. Desirable for Gem type purposes, this is a simply beautiful example with both sides displaying full, frosty-textured luster. Modest hints of reflectivity are evident at the peripheries and a sharp-to-full strike is easily seen. The entire effect is enhanced by soft, iridescent peripheral toning in deep ocean-blue. While this can be considered a common date in an absolute sense, this particular die marriage is Rarity-4 and much more challenging to locate in the finer Mint State grades than most half dollar issues of this date and type. It is a lovely coin that is the finest known of its Overton 123 variety.
