The New Year is upon us which means the New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) is just around the corner, January 12, 13 and 14 at the InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel, located at 111 East 48 Street at Lexington Avenue. The NYINC is one of the best shows in the world for Ancient and Foreign coins and Stack’s Bowers Galleries is proud to be an official auctioneer of the 52nd annual convention. It is attended by many top tier dealers and serious collectors, all excited for the numismatic treasures being presented.
This week we would like to point out five attractive lots, all Gem Mint State or better, from our Showcase auction sessions on January 12 and 13.
Two lots in Session C stand out. The first is an original looking Superb Gem Mint State French 5 Francs in lot 52036, that is tied for finest certified and displays rich mottled patina over satiny surfaces and frosted devices. The Gem Mint State British Noble in lot 52112 is an outstanding 15th century gold coin that sits at the top of the PCGS census report and displays shimmery luster with crisp design features.
Session E offers many interesting and high grade pieces, but the satiny luster and bold devices on the 1731 Choice Gem Mint State Isle du Vent 6 Sols in lot 53244 commands attention.
Session F concludes the live NYINC sessions of our auction and includes many high grade and sought-after issues such as lot 54109, a highly unusual Gem Mint State Mughal Empire ½ Rupee struck in the name Queen Nur Jahan. Though not the last lot in the auction the stunning Choice Gem Mint State Venice Zecchino of Michele Steno in lot 54186 offers brilliant shimmering luster and bold devices.
