Stack’s Bowers Galleries is in the final stages of preparing our exciting November 2023 auction of Physical Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency. This sale is particularly significant in marking a full two years since our first offering in this category and a decade since the end of production for the Casascius series. As such, we are proud to be presenting tremendous rarities from the Casascius series in the sale, headlined by a 2013 “Gold Rim” 1 Bitcoin graded Proof-68 Deep Cameo by PCGS.
This “Gold Rim” Series 3 Casascius 1 Bitcoin is an astounding treasure and ranks among only 13 examples certified by PCGS in all grades. Specialist Elias Ahonen reveals that this gilt variety is “derived from the Series 3 coins of which 2000 were originally made [in silver]. 700 of them were converted to this ‘Gold Rim’ version by Casascius…this [gold] plating is of a higher quality than that of the Series 2 10 BTC 2012 ‘Gold B’ coins.” Additionally, it is thought that over 10% of the Series 3 coins have been peeled and redeemed, further increasing their rarity.
This “Gold Rim” variety is rarely offered publicly, making this a monumental opportunity for advanced crypto collectors or PCGS Registry Set participants. A similar “Gold Rim” 1 BTC graded Proof-69 Deep Cameo sold for $78,000 in our June 2023 sale. A 10 Bitcoin of the same type sold for $312,000 in our August 2023 sale, indicating the tremendous demand for Physical Bitcoin from the Casascius series.
The upcoming November sale arrives on the heels of our successful August 2023 sale in which more than $730,000 in Physical Cryptocurrency was sold. Accompanying this “Gold Rim” 1 Bitcoin are additional rarities from the Casascius series as well as treasures from the Lealana, Alpen, Crypto Imperator, 1HoDLCLUB, Satori, Polymerbit, and other desirable series. The November sale will be posted on our website StacksBowers.com for pre-bidding in mid-October. To register to bid or to order a copy of the printed catalog, contact specialist James McCartney at [email protected] or call (800) 566-2580. We are also now accepting consignments of Physical Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency to our Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 auctions.
