Rare Pair of 500 Pesos

In our ANA World’s Fair of Money Sale in Denver on August 4th, we are offering two exceptional 500 Pesos notes from the Philippines. The lot numbers are Lot 30336 and 30338.

In Lot 30336 we are offering Pick 33c, a 1906 500 Pesos Silver Certificate that was printed by USBEP. It is an extremely rare Silver Certificate for 500 Pesos from the Philippine Islands that features a striking portrait of Legazpi at center. This is currently one of only two pieces graded by PMG according to their Population Report, with the other being in private hands. Harrison-Fitzsimmons signatures are seen in the signature panels.

Lot 30338 shows Pick 67, another 500 Pesos note. This Treasury Certificate is also printed by the USBEP. It is extremely difficult to acquire one of these pieces and this is one of only two pieces graded by PMG for the catalog number (we know the other is in private hands). Legazpi is seen at center of the note with an obligation of 500 to his left, and the blue seal to the right. Harrison-Fitzsimmons signatures are found in the signature panels. PMG mentions ink and minor rust in the comments section. This piece is one of the rarest pieces in the catalog for the Philippines, and is a rival to the Pick 33c we are also offering in our August auction.

Both notes will be in Session C of our World Paper Auction August 4th, 2017 at 6:30 MDT. For questions regarding bidding, or inquiries about any of these lots please contact [email protected].
