Finest Graded Pick A126a 1927 China & South Sea Bank Limited 1 Yuan Realizes $26,290 in Stack’s Bowers’ Macau Auction

The currency portion of the recent Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio Macau world coin and currency auction featured an impressive Pick A126a 1927 China & South Sea Bank Limited 1 Yuan note graded Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ by PMG. The vertical format note is rare in any grade and this is the finest example graded by PMG. 

The face of this Waterlow & Sons produced note is printed in deep maroon red with yellow underprint. Three female busts appear above a Yuan Shi-kai dollar. The back is printed in brown with green and pink underprint and features the obverse of the coin with bust of Yuan Shi-Kai at center. Two female busts appear above the coin. The note, lot 31028, realized an impressive $26,290 in the sale.
