Obverse Design: “THE. WHEELE. GOES. ROUND.” The obverse of the coin shows a 12 spoked wheel in the center, with the text surrounding in the outer border. A pointing hand sits at the bottom of the coin and points to the word THE.

Reverse Design: “J. CUT. MY. WAY. THROUGH.” A large broad axe is in the center of the coin with text surrounding. The blade of the axe is touching the outer circular border of the coin. The pointing finger symbol is positioned at the bottom of the coin pointing to the letter J.

Helpful Tips for Identifying the W-8295, Freidus 4-C Variety: The obverse of the coin displays a new motif, in a rare departure from the standing deer imagery used on all other Higley Coppers. The reverse of the coin is what allows us to qualify this as a Higley Copper, since it makes use of the broad axe and the phrase J CUT MY WAY THROUGH.

The example to the left is from Stack’s December 1983 Sale of the John L. Roper, 2nd Collection of Colonial and Early American Coins, where it sold for $60,500.
