The Extremely Rare 1861 Liberty Head Eagle Sells for $336,000 in Rarities Night Session

Stack’s Bowers Galleries Rarities Night Session of the Winter 2022 Expo Auction was a great success. Lot 5097 offered an 1861 Proof Liberty Head $10, an issue with a small mintage of 69 coins, many of which ended up melted at the Mint. It is estimated by experts that around 10 coins survive, making this piece rare. The coin is graded by PCGS as Proof-64+ Cameo, and it is the only coin to receive a Cameo designation. This coin realized a final price of $336,000.
