1862 3¢ Silver Coin Graded PF-66+ Cameo Only Three Graded Finer

The 1862 Proof three cent silver piece is a key date for the series, as the mintage dropped from 1,000 Proof sets in 1861 to 550 in 1862. Demand for the coins was high, with 430 sets selling at the initial offer and some selling later. The coins that remained unsold were released into circulation. This coin is relatively common in lower grades, with even Proof-65 examples fairly easy to find. However, the coin offered in our Spring 2023 sale is rare in the exceptional preservation of Proof-66+ Cameo (PCGS). Don’t miss your opportunity to place a bid on this lot in the upcoming Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo.
