“A” for an Affordable Ace!

upcoming sale of the Joel R. Anderson Collection Part IV is only a week away.
In recent months the entire world of paper money collectors has been
abuzz. Soon, the fourth in this series of great events will take place—at
the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore, on Thursday evening,
February 28th.

Much of
the focus has been on the rarest of the rare—notes that are one-of-a-kind in
private hands—rarities that will make headlines.

week we showcase one of many very affordable notes. By definition the Anderson
Collection of large-size federal notes by design types includes the common as
well as the rare. As to the common, as here, the quality is anything but. The
featured note is the finest graded by PCGS. Still, it is estimated in the low
four figures.

printed catalog of the Anderson Collection sale has been distributed, and in
addition complete information is available at  You are cordially invited to attend the dynamic Expo next week and
view the Anderson notes in person as well as see the many other coins, tokens,
medals, and paper money in our multiple auction sales.
 We have been
the official auctioneer of the Expo since day one.

addition to the Joel R. Anderson Collection, currency is offered in the Caine
Collection (rare federal proof notes) and in another catalog. The net result is
that if you are at all interested in paper money, this is the place to be.
There are many buying opportunities.

4003. Friedberg 34 (W-30). 1880 $1 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Currency Superb Gem
New 67 PPQ.

incredible Series of 1880 $1 Legal Tender Note has been remarkably well
preserved and looks as if it just rolled off of the presses at the Bureau of
Engraving and Printing. This catalog number comes with the engraved signatures
of Rosecrans and Nebeker at the bottom left and right respectively. A small red
scalloped Treasury Seal is found to the left of Washington’s portrait. Blue
printed serial numbers are in gray serial number panels at the lower left and
upper right.

are broad margins on both the face and the back of the note. The centering is
superb and the inks are vividly printed. PCGS Currency has graded no other
example of the catalog number finer than the presently offered note. PMG has
graded two examples at the 67 EPQ level with none finer. This is truly an
exceptional example of a challenging catalog number and offers an ideal opportunity
to acquire an affordable Gem-quality note with the Joel R. Anderson pedigree.

 5, none finer.
