The 1891-CC is a desirable coin due to the popularity of the CC mintmark and its availability in Uncirculated grades. The coin is not in the common class even though more than one million pieces were minted. Choice specimens can be found in the higher Mint State grades. Most coins are lustrous and have superb eye appeal, yet not all are sharply struck. Strike varies from poor to sharp. Prooflike coins are not in high demand due to having low contrast in relation to design features.
Often found in circulated grades, though EF and AU coins are harder to find.
MS-63 and 64 are the dominant grades for this date though lesser or finer pieces are available with modest frequency. Look for an MS-64 with a sharp strike and lively frost and you’ll be well satisfied.
None produced.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the Spring 2019 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $16,800.
