The 1939-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar is the most plentiful mintmarked Walker from the middle portion of this series (1934-1940), edging out the 1940-S in an absolute sense and the 1939-S in MS-65 and higher grades. There are only three 1939-D half dollars graded as high as MS-68 by PCGS and NGC combined, and no examples are finer at either service.
